What even IS a holistic nutritionist?

Based on title alone, I personally would NOT seek out a nutritionist. I have tended to eat fairly well for most of my life and the term "diet" is not one I embrace. Most diets tend to offer a generic approach that does not take into account an individual's genetics, taste preferences and environmental factors. Additionally, restriction in any form does not sit well with me and I'm guessing the same is true for many of you. Food needs to bring us joy and fasting aside, like breathing, it is something we must do every day. Nevertheless, it is easy with today's multiple media platforms to be confused by the barrage of conflicting advice. Just do this cleanse. Just buy this supplement. Just subscribe to my channel and share your email so I can show you how to make everything completely from scratch. The journey to better health is never as easy as a one-step pill fix, nor should it be so hard and time-consuming that it's unmanageable.

Many people seek out holistic nutritionists because traditional healthcare often falls short in providing the personalized, one-on-one care they need. I had heard one study claim that the average patient gets only about 11 seconds to explain concerns during a standard insurance-based doctor visit. Hopefully, that is not the case for you and please know that I do respect and appreciate doctors. Many are well intentioned, highly intelligent and extensively trained in their area of expertise. Yet, they may also be exhausted, overwhelmed by sheer patient volume and beholden to health insurance companies that may not have your best interests at heart. Just as we do not have a solid, standardized nutrition curriculum in U.S. schools, most general practitioners only receive minimal training in nutrition or lifestyle counseling, leaving a gap in support for those looking to prevent or manage chronic illness through sustainable lifestyle changes.

Holistic nutritionists and health coaches help fill that gap. We take the time to truly understand each client as a whole, physically, emotionally, and mentally. Clients should feel heard, supported, and empowered. Working together, we can create customized strategies to improve health, reduce stress, enhance emotional well-being, and achieve lasting change. Rather than offering one-size-fits-all advice, coaches provide ongoing guidance and accountability that lead to meaningful and lasting improvements in quality of life.

Welcome. I appreciate you joining me and sharing this space with other women in need. My goal is to create a supportive community here that offers resources, shares the latest studies / books/ podcasts and provides wellness tips that you can implement today. As someone who has faced a variety of health issues personally and in my family (depression, anxiety, PCOS infertility, PTSD, fibromyalgia, PANS / PANDAS among other diagnoses) I know a few things to be true. It can be devastating to live with certain conditions and watch loved one's struggle. It is horrible to think that you have exhausted all of your resources and still feel stuck. And yet, our bodies do possess an incredible capacity to heal. We may not have immediate answers given your unique circumstances, but we can make progress, and you do not have to feel alone.
